Sakthy Edamaruku

A Stephanian from the batch of 2000. I studied History in College, went on to do my Masters from JNU in Ancient Indian History. After that I jumped into the world of Journalism – felt like the natural thing to do – since I come from a family of Journalists. I spent about a decade working across the top English news channels in India. I worked for Headlines Today (India Today TV now), NDTV, CNN-IBN (Network 18 now), Reuters and Times Now. I moved to Mumbai for a few years… loved the city but I got homesick, missed family and friends in Delhi and the Delhi food -and I was done with TV news too

I made it back to Delhi when I joined the British High Commission as the Head of Communications for the Department for International Trade. I worked at the High Commission for about 12 years. It was a fantastic journey where I was advising and managing digital media and communication engagements for the foreign mission while working closely with the High Commissioners to India. I also conducted comprehensive communications training programs for senior diplomats and led the digital crisis response team. When I resigned the foreign mission I was their Head of Digital Diplomacy.

In early 2023, I moved to Finland to join my father’s organisation – Rationalist International. The Edamarukus have led the rationalist and atheist movement in Kerala and India. With a headquarter in Helsinki, the organisation - organises conferences, lectures, youth camps and workshops and publishes books. I am also doing an entrepreneurship course in Helsinki and hoping to implement the learnings to the family business.

A bit about my personal life. I am a Malayalee who grew up in Delhi. Met my husband – Rohit (who is from Bihar) at NDTV. I have been married to him for 18 years (still love him dearly). We have a 10 -year-old daughter who is curious and loves music and painting. As mentioned earlier we moved to Finland earlier this year. We are still in the process of learning the language and settling in. My mum, who is my pillar of strength lives in Delhi with my younger brother who is one of the youngest Executive Producers at India Today TV.
