Avishek Ghosh

I’m Avishek Ghosh and I belong to the Class of 1998 - 2001 Chemistry (Hons).

It was beyond those rickety gates past the basketball court, Muk West and the Science dhaba, where my journey took its first steps. My scientific bewilderment and waywardness needed some shape and that’s when I got my first lessons, not that of Chemistry, but that of what is necessary to continue and sustain our child-like excitement and quest for truth and facts.

Those countless evening walks through College under the chirpy trees, a prayer or two at the Chapel with an unknown someone playing an ethereal piece on the Piano, those few knocks of TT at the JCR, hiding behind the Holy Mince and nimbu paani instead of being in class, have all played a part of who I am today.

After those 3 glorious years, I did my MS in Chemistry from IIT Delhi and pursued my PhD in Ultrafast Laser Photonics at Leiden University in the Netherlands. After a few postdoc research positions, I decided to move into Corporate R&D and since then I’ve been working in semiconductors and display research as a senior scientist/engineer, at corporations like Applied Materials developing tools that manufacture semicon chips and Microsoft, building augmented reality devices.

I am currently based out of Helsinki, Finland and I’m trying to build our network of Stephanians in the Nordics and globally, in the hope of being for each other as we always have been.
